General Program Description
Kirbyville CISD is entering our 5th year of the Chromebook 1:1 initiative. In the 2021-2022 school year we began Phase I of refreshing our Chromebook fleet with new devices. Students in grades 4, 6 and 9 in 21-22 received a new Chromebook. They will continue to use that same Chromebook this year.
This school year, 2022-2023, we continue with Phase II of the Chromebook Refresh program. Students in grades 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, & 12 will receive a new Chromebook this year.
The program also includes 1 device for every student in grades PreK - 3 in their classroom. Pre-K & Kindergarten have new iPad carts and 1st - 3rd grades will use Chromebook carts in the classroom.
Optional Chromebook Accidental Insurance Program (Grades 4-12)
Kirbyville CISD offers an optional Chromebook Accidental Insurance program to cover repairs in the event of accidental damages that may happen to the Chromebook. The insurance is only $20 per Chromebook and covers up to 2 repairs of accidental damage during the 2022-2023 school year.
For more information about the insurance program please view the KCISD Chromebook 1:1 Insurance Program document. Insurance may be purchased during One Stop Registration at the Technology Table.
Verizon MiFi Checkout
Verizon Jetpack devices are available for checkout for students in grades 4 - 12 with a restriction of 1 - jetpack per household. These devices have unlimited bandwidth and will allow multiple students in the household to connect for the purpose of completeing their educational assignments and projects.
In order to receive a jetpack for the current school year, parents must complete and return the Parent/Student MiFi Agreement Form. The form can be picked up in the campus library or you can download a copy HERE.
KCISD has chosen to partner with Verizon Wireless in an effort to bring internet connectivity to our student households with the Wireless Vendor whose signal covers the highest percentage of our school district area.
Security and Filtering
Kirbyville CISD is very dedicated to the safety and security of your children physically as well as electronically on the internet. As a part of our safety preparedness, the Chromebooks will have multiple layers of internet filtering. The first layer is the district CIPA (Childrens Internet Protection Act) filter and firewall while students are using them at school. Then, the Jetpacks will have CIPA filtering through CyberReef. And lastly, we have installed on every Chromebook, the GoGuardian CIPA filtering product that will protect the Chromebook no matter what WiFi connection they are using, anywhere in the world.
