Kirbyville's Jacob Sumrall won Sealy Outdoors' Big Bass Splash Fall Shootout last weekend with a 9.6-pound largemouth bass he caught on the first day of the two-day, 765 field tournament at Umphrey Pavilion at Lake Sam Rayburn.
His catch came just after the tournament's opening hour. This was the fifth Big Bass Splash event Sumrall has participated in.
"I have been fishing it since I was eight-years-old," Sumrall, 12, said, adding he's fished all his previous Splash events in the Junior Angler Division and won in some of those.
"At first I thought I was hung up on something. Then, I felt it tug on it and it jumped out of the water."
Hanging on to his catch, Jacob said the fish was about 10-15 feet away from the boat and then the fish again swam toward him.
