KCISD School Accountability Ratings

Overall: This report card is designed to tell us how well we are helping students reach grade level and how well we are preparing them for success after high school. Much like the grades we give students, we can use these grades to identify ways to help schools improve over time. The overall grade is based on performance in three different areas, or domains, which are noted below.

 How is Overall Performance calculated?

Overall grades for schools are calculated based on performance in three key areas, or domains. We take the higher score between how much students know and can do (Student Achievement) or how much better students are doing than last year or than peers in similar schools (School Progress). This counts 70% of the overall score. We then consider whether performance gaps exist among different groups of students (Closing the Gaps).  This counts 30% of the overall score.

This design reflects a commitment to recognizing high student achievement and the impact of highly effective educators while maintaining focus on the students most in need. Ratings options for the overall score out of 100 are:

A: 90–100
B: 80–89
C: 70–79
D: 60–69
F: 0–59

What does a "B" in the Student Achievement domain mean?

Districts earn a B (80–89) for recognized achievement when at least 48% of students meet grade level on STAAR and at least 53% of graduates are college ready, obtain a specialized career credential, or enlist in the military.

Student Achievement shows how much students know and are able to do at the end of the school year.

How does a school earn a distinction?

Campuses that receive an accountability rating of Met Standard are eligible to earn distinction designations. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics. The distinction designation indicators are typically separate from those used to assign accountability ratings. Districts that receive a rating of A, B, C, or D are eligible for a distinction designation in postsecondary readiness.
