Damaged Books and Fines

 

Time will be devoted in library to teaching students proper book care. Our children are learning that with any privilege comes responsibility. We want our kids to have nice books to borrow and enjoy, so they must take good care of our books. Fines are assessed for damages as follows:

Torn pages —25 cents per page

Spine label damaged or missing , Barcode damaged or missing, or

AR sticker(s) damaged or missing —$1 per label

Writing/drawing on or in books --$1 per page or book surface up to cost of book

Food or sticky substances if limited to outside cover and removable --$2

The following damages will be assessed according to the extent of the damage (not to exceed the cost of the book):

Cover damage

Bent pages

Pencil or Crayon shavings on or in book

Any other damage not listed above

 

Some damages are not repairable, and the cost of the book will be fined.

Examples are: mold/mildew on or in book; exposure of book to moisture (even if it has not started to mildew); pages completely torn out or missing; food/sticky substances inside the book or not removable from outside of book; books with cover and/or pages that have been chewed by an animal.

Important Fact
Books that are damaged beyond repair must be paid for so that a replacement may be purchased.
